A Sneak Peek at Steve & Michelle's Wedding Day on Lake Michigan

I am at a loss for words..... it was beautiful... breath taking..... elegant..... relaxing..... well,  at home..... We had the opportunity to film Steve & Michelle's wedding day in front of the beautiful backdrop of Lake Michigan.  Unlike other beautiful Lake Michigan weddings, this was on Michelle's parents waterfront property.  Take this picture perfect setting, allow Barry Jetter of Procedo Events to create an environment through decor and floral arrangements, allow Nancy of RSVP Invitations and Bridal Consulting help make this dream a reality, add absolutely gorgeous weather and you have a picture perfect setting for a wedding.  ....add fireworks and you have a perfect ending to a wedding day.

We shot along side Mitch Ranger of Mitch Ranger Photography who has a truly unique style.  I often hear of photography defined as painting with light and that is the best description I have of what Mitch does.  Seeing his images displayed at the reception gathered a crowd of onlookers.  Even after watching the images loop through once you found yourself watching again.

You may recognize Michelle from a previous movie on our blog.  It was nearly one year ago we filmed her sister Jenny's, wedding day.  We love it when we get to work with a family multiple times.  We truly felt like guests at their wedding and at their home.  Steve & Michelle thank you for allowing us to be part of your day and to capture your wedding day.  We can't wait to share with the great shots we got, until then here is a quick sneak peek at your wedding day movie.

Matt & Nikki's Story

Sure we create videos, but I like to think of ourselves as storytellers, video artists, filmmakers..... you get the point.  We love to create and preserve people's stories.  We do it every weekend with each wedding we film.  It is a great honor and not taken lightly to be entrusted to capture and produce the couples wedding day story.  What I think is so cool is everybody has a story and with today's technology you don't have to be famous to have your story told and preserved.

Matt and Nikki's story included falling in love in High School, growing apart in college, and after much prayer and soul searching, finding their true love for each other.  Matt & Nikki are such a great couple, it is so cool that they will be sharing their Love Story with all of their guests at their reception.  This is such a good way to share with everyone the road that they went down leading them to their wedding day.

I can't help but look years down the road when their kids will be watching their story of how they met, how they trusted in God to bring them back together, how their dad proposed, and to hear their feelings for each other.  If only I could go back in time and  see how my parents met and hear their story.

Matt and Nikki, you guys are great.  Thank you for taking the time and making the investment in capturing your story for years to come.  It is something that you will never regret and that will get more valuable with each generation.  Continue to  to trust in Jesus with every aspect of your marriage. It is the glue that keeps our family and marriage so close through the good times, and the tough times.  Congratulations on a great life together!

Home....Sweet....Home!!!

Well after six weeks of displacement, we are finally home and loving it!!!  It has been like Christmas morning around here as the kids are playing with their old toys but enjoying them like they are brand new!!  It is nice to get a somewhat normal business workflow back as well as some routine (as much as there can be with 4 kids), Lauren is even sleeping in her own bed, instead of her car seat.

Homesweethome

Thank you for all of your prayers over the past weeks, for everyone who watched our kids, brought us meals, and even restocked our pantry with groceries!   And we wanted to thank Dave Ponte of Shiloh Construction for being so helpful with not only the construction but also with making decisions throughout this sometime overwhelming process.  We also have been so blessed with how easy our insurance adjuster has been to work with, Servpro, and Recovery Cleaners.  And last but not least, thank you to Aunt Carol and Uncle Randy for allowing us to invade your home!  A family of six is no small thing and we so appreciate your willingness to allow your home to be ours!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!  We are incredibly blessed and so grateful!  (i know this isn't the Oscars, so I will stop now).

Our little girl is growing up.....

With the fire, the busyness of the summer, and the reality that we now have a big family, Lauren's first 8 weeks have flown by.  Our little baby is starting to coo, smile, hold up her head, and make eye contact....all things that warm a parents heart.  We had to be sure to capture her sweetness while she is still little.  Her first video has been delayed a little due to being out of our studio, but I hope to have it complete soon.....so stay tuned for more of this little cutie.

13 years.....4 kids.....and still in love!

Us13years2

(You've gotta love a picture that was taken on a timer, propped up on the stroller's handle.)

I am truly blessed to be married to my best friend.  With our anniversary being in the middle of wedding season (hmmmm.....go figure) it isn't always easy to plan a get away, just the two of us (almost....Lauren tagged along this year).  We have always made it a point to celebrate our marriage each year around our anniversary.  This is a tradition we started even back when we were living in married housing at Michigan State.  It isn't always easy with a busy life and now 4 kids, but thus far we have managed to make it work.  It is great to have uninterrupted adult conversation about life, where we are, and where we are going.  We have even had moments of silence where we ran out of words.....that doesn't happen often.

This year we headed to downtown Grand Rapids which works out great with family in town to watch the kids.  Most of the time we are in downtown Grand Rapids it is to shoot a wedding or a love story, so it is nice to just walk around and enjoy the city.

We managed to capture quite a bit of video and pictures of our stroll through the city....what else do you do without kids.

Wow she's hot! ......I know what you're thinking so you don't have to say it.....I married way out of my league!  The best part is her beauty is only one of the reasons I married her.  Renee' has got to be the most selfless, loving, sincere, deep, real, creative, artistic, talented, giving, fun women a man could ever ask for.  She makes life fun, even in all of it's craziness.  I look forward to the time we get to spend together and enjoy doing life with her.  It is no wonder I am so passionate about capturing weddings, it was one of the best days of my life. Okay......enough sappiness........

Reneewall2

Oh ya....we did have a special guest this year for our anniversary.  Lauren don't think that you will get to do this every year, but we did enjoy having some one on one time with you and of course capturing some of your sweetness before we blink and you are all grown-up.  I do have to admit, she is quite cute.

Butterflybaby2

Well Renee' it has been 13 great years, it is amazing how time flies.  Thank you for being my partner in life and making our marriage a priority during a time when you have so many things pulling for your time (Ethan, Jordan, Lindsey, Lauren......to name a few).  I look forward to growing old with you.....who am I fooling I seem to be the only one getting old here.....anyways......I love you and can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you.  Happy Anniversary Sweetie! ......I know....I know I said I was done with the sappiness.

Design Envy Blogger & CP Fan

We filmed Billy & Kristen Shellenbarger's wedding back in 2006 on Mackinac Island.  Billy & Kristen are now famous with their online wedding videos seen 1000's of times, featured in the Knot, & from what I hear soon to be on the Knot TV.  Since their wedding day we have shot several of their friends weddings and stay in touch through e-mail and blogs.  One thing great about staying in touch with the couples that we film is we get to see all that they are up to in their married life.

Kristen is a cabinet designer for Midwest Counter and Cabinet Inc. and showcases her work on her blog Design Envy.  If you are thinking about doing some remodeling, be sure to send Kristen an e-mail and check out her blog.  Kristen has also been recently featured on Design Hole Online Blog......check it out.

The Big Announcement!

Well.....the big announcement....so what's all the hype about.  Renee' and I feel strongly that ALL couples should have their wedding day preserved on video for generations to come.  As we have continued to focus creating a cinematic experience and producing highly edited custom wedding movies for our clients, we have not fit into every couples budget.

In order to make it feasible for ALL couples to have a quality professionally produced wedding video.  Captured Productions will have two options for capturing your wedding day by offering two lines of wedding movies, Simply CP and CP Wedding Films.

Simply CP will allow us to create a clean professionally produced wedding video for our clients with a limited budget.

A Sneak Peek at Steven & Katie's Wedding Day on Lake Michigan

We have got the best job in the world!!! After you watch this trailer for Steven & Katie's wedding day movie you will know why.  Their ceremony and reception overlooked beautiful Lake Michigan.  You couldn't have asked for a better day despite the grim forecast we were watching all morning long.  A cool breeze....a beautiful sunset.....a great wedding day.....for an amazing couple.

It is no wonder the day went so smoothly given the cast of wedding professionals that Steven & Katie entrusted their day to.  Nancy & Erin of RSVP as always did an amazing job coordinating and planning the day.  Wow....all the details they have to prepare for....I am glad our job is to just capture the details (check out other weddings on our blog coordinated by RSVP, 1, 2).    This was our first time working with Barry Jetter's floral design as our backdrop.  Barry and his team from Procedo Events did an amazing job creating the ambiance of the ceremony and reception.  His reputation definitely preceded him.  One of the other great things I love about my job is the opportunity to shoot along side amazingly talented and creative photographers each week. This week we shot along side Mitch Ranger who had a truly unique style and creative approach to photography.  Oh and how could I forget the excellent dinner by Christine Ferris Catering. I understand Steven had quite a bit of input on the menu.  After learning more about Steven's background  and books he has written, the menu was a perfect match.  I do have to admit after learning about Katie being a publicist and Steven being an author, I am a little more nervous about the grammatical and punctuation errors sprinkled throughout my blog post.

Steven & Katie, thank you for treating us as one of your guests, it was truly an amazing day that you will never forget.  We are so excited with what we captured, it will bring you back.  Until then here is a sneak peek at your wedding day movie.  Enjoy!

"I do....." Deckrow Style

To quote one of my previous posts, We Are Family, "What else happens when the Deckrows get together.....a lot of memories are made and they are all captured with photos and video.  With 3 professional photographers and 2 professional videographers in the family our gatherings somewhat resemble the papratzi."   Well the Deckrows got together again, all the way up from Georgia.  This time we got a little surprise....as well as Kaylie.

Josh had big plans to propose to Kaylie and thought it would be a good idea to do it at Michigan Adventure when the whole family was together.  So how was Josh going to propose in front of 20 Deckrows who didn't know the plan and still keep things looking normal......well a train ride of course.  Some were complaining about a dumb train ride, some were starting to wander off.  Then we get in line and realized we were the line and pretty much took over the whole train......sounds like the Deckrows.

So here we are....the 20 of us going on a train ride at Michigan adventure....not necessarily an everyday affair.  Then you have a video and still camera turned around and pointing at you.....okay that is a little more normal in my family.  Josh had strategically placed signs along the train ride to do the talking for him.  Now it was a little awkward when the signs said, Will...... You....... Marry...... Me........................ (long pause) and there were two of my sisters who were with their boyfriends.....hmmmmmm......who's it going to be...........Kaylie!

It was quite an exciting time for my family.  Josh I am glad we haven't scared you away yet.  You will be a great husband for Kaylie and fit in well as our new brother-in-law.  For the rest of you that didn't happen to be on the famous train ride here is a short video of the proposal and of course the "I do.....".

Counting Our Blessings!

It has been quite a week....plenty of challenges and much reflection.

Happfather'sday

This past Friday (6/27) we were enjoying dinner with family when we got a call from our babysitter that she saw some smoke coming out of our upstairs bathroom vent and that she got everyone outside and called 911...Rachel we can't thank you enough for getting everyone out safely and calling right away.  Needless to say we moved quite quickly to get back home.  On our way down our street we saw 4 fire engines, fire hoses across the street and a lot of fire fighters....reality began to sink in.  Unable to get down the street we parked and quickly walked to our home along with half of our neighborhood.  There we were met with our kids and babysitter....although we knew they were safe, it was great to see their faces.  The fire department had already given all of the kids fire hats and Lindsey a teddy bear.  Lindsey kept repeating, "there's a fire in my house....I'm not scared, I'm brave"....like she does with thunder as she tries to convince herself.

After talking with our babysitter we found that Lindsey helped save our house.  They were at the park when, conveniently, Lindsey had to go the bathroom, and then followed up by wetting her pants (parents of 2 year olds feel the pain).  Our babysitter had to go upstairs to get fresh cloths before heading back to the park, which is when she found smoke in the bathroom.  Thanks Lindsey :-)   It makes me think twice when I get annoyed by little inconveniences not knowing what we could be spared from.

FireBlog07

We are so grateful for all of those at the Midland Fire Department who responded quickly to put out the fire.  They even removed our pictures off the wall to keep them from being damaged by the fire.
FireBlog05

They worked hard into the night making sure all of the fire was out, seemingly unaware of the crazy storm that they were working through.  After the fire was put out I saw one of the firemen kneel in prayer. It was so symbolic of all of our gratitude to God that things were not any worse....hours later we could have been sleeping only feet from where the fire started.
FireBlog09

After hours on end we were able to go in the house to see the extent of the damage.  I was relieved and taken back at the same time.  The little fire in my mind was much larger than I expected.  The fire had been smoldering for several hours before it was discovered.  The source of the fire, wiring in the attic, was smoldering in the attic by the blown in insulation.  Several of the trusses were completely burned through, but a flame never reached the roof.  The fire was kept very local.
FireBlog01
FireBlog02
Jordan and Lindsey were quite taken back by the damage like the rest of us.
FireBlog03
FireBlog04

So amongst counting our blessings and much reflection we are working through getting the repairs done and the tedious efforts of getting rid of all the smoke and water damage throughout the house.  We have been in a hotel since Friday night (Ethan & Jordan..."Cool, like Suite Life of Zach & Cody"....if you don't have kids or watch the Disney Chanel, never mind).  We will probably be out of our house for quite some time until every thing is back to normal.  Thank you so much all of those who have helped us out during this time and have offered to help, your love and support is felt.

As far as Captured Productions is concerned no equipment was impacted.  The fire definitely reinforced our extensive back-up strategy (miniDV tapes, local hard drives, and off site hard drive back-ups of our weddings).  It also reinforces our back-up strategy for our million digital personal photos (local hard drives, local back-up hard drives, DVDs, offsite internet back-up (Carbonite, Mozy, soon to be MobileMe)).  If you don't back-up offsite, definitely reconsider what could happen to all of your prized memories.

We will have future updates on how things are going.  It is still business as usual with no major shifts to our production schedule even with the million hours being spent on getting things back to normal.  Being out of our in home studio will definitely change our workflow so if there are any delays, please be patient....hotel internet isn't quite as fast and dependable as our studio.

This experience has once again reconfirmed the importance of capturing memories and preserving them for years to come.

Twitter

Well I have been on Twitter for a couple of months now....like I need one more thing to do on the internet. Well being able to read and update on my Treo has worked well when I am waiting and fills the time nicely.  It is kinda cool to be able to see at a glance what all those you are following are up to.

There is always discussion about if this online social networking and virtual communication connects you or makes you more disconnected.  Of course it can be argued both ways and like anything it comes down to how you use it.  I personally think it is pretty cool to be current on the stuff your friends, family, & colleges are up to, it is the ultimate ice breaker in getting to know someone.  With family and friends it is cool to see their week, pictures from their week, and when you talk to them so much more ground can be covered.  We have even seen it even at weddings this year.  After you have been through their blog, followed them on Twitter and facebook, you are way past, "soooo.... what have you been up to?......is the summer going good?.......

Anyways enough social networking theory by Aaron.  For more deep thoughts....or not so deep thoughts you can follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/ajdeckro   Try not to kill too much time online.

A Sneak Peek at Mark & Tiffany's Wedding Day

Back in 2004 we shot Tiffany's sisters wedding....now it was Tiffany's turn.  We love shooting weddings for people that were referred by family and friends.

Samantha and Brian from A Thousand Words Photography were there to capture the day as well, I can't wait to see their images from the day.  You have to check out their work on their website and blog.  They have a way of capturing a moment and creating an amazing image.  I love following their work....I sit there staring at images of strangers and enjoy looking through all of them.....a sign of great art.

Mark & Tiffany's reception was at The H in their outdoor tent.  This is the first time I had shot outdoors at The H.....it was beautiful.  The lantern lighting looked great on their video.  It was great working with Vicki Kea and the rest of the staff at The H Hotel.  I am looking forward to touring the new renovations.

We love to share a sneak peek at what we were able to capture from a couples wedding day while we take the needed time to create an amazing wedding day movie that will last for generations and soon to become their daughters favorite movie.  Well Mark & Tiffany here is a quick peek a the wedding movie we are working on for you.  Enjoy your movie trailer and we look forward the premier of your wedding day movie.

Indiana Jordan Turns 6!

Jordan our animated 5 year old has become our animated 6 year old.  When Jordan gets into something he goes all the way.  Last year it was Star Wars with his Everyday Superhero video.  After seeing the previews for Indiana Jones - The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, he "had" to see the movie and he wanted an Indiana Jones Birthday Party.  Since we make a short video of our kids each year, what better theme than Indiana Jones.....excuse me "Indiana Jordan".  Indiana Jordan's movie debuted tonight at his birthday party.

I love this guy....we had so much fun making this video together.  I would throw an idea out there and he would take it to the next level.  Jordan gave his stamp of approval today when he watched it for the first time, "Cool!"....and then he watched it over and over.

For those who remember Jordan's outtakes from last year....yes there will be outtakes again.  You can't shoot Jordan for 2 hours and not capture at least a few of his "isms", or "I can'ts" (although there were a lot fewer this year).  You may recognize some of the voice over work done by the star of Something Beautiful....or at least her Outtakes....yes those soundbites were captured while the camera was running, all candid moments of course

....oh yes and we do offer these "Day in the life...." movies to others as well.

Jordan...You Rock Buddy!!  I had so much fun making this with you.  Keep your imagination alive and keep dreaming big.  I can't wait to see God's plan for your life, you are one cool dude!  Happy Birthday Indiana Jordan!   -Love, Dad

Wow!

Wow what a whirlwind day!  No sleep last night....hospital by 4:00AM....Lauren born at 7:37AM :-) ...lots of visitors, and I didn't do any of the work.  I think I could get used to this....unlimited holding of Lauren...wi-fi....no kids (except Lauren)....talking with Renee' without interruption.  Reality will be among us come Sunday, but we will enjoy the peace and quite until then.

We did miss some of our usuals this birth, not only did a lot of our family move south, but they took a few visitors with them this week.  No worries they got to meet Lauren in our hospital room via iChat and will visiting later this month.

Amongst all of the hub-bub we were able to take some video and a few "alien" pictures (those are the ones during the first few hours).  I am sure there will be more of this beautiful girl to come.

Shooting The H with Samantha Cover

No it's not some cryptic swear word, we will be shooting at The H Hotel this weekend along side the very talented couple Samantha & Brian Cover of A Thousand Words Photography.  It has been awhile since we have shot a wedding with Samantha and Brian, so we are looking forward to it.  The last time we shot at The H Hotel it was Ashman Court Hotel.  They have gone through quite the major renovations, including their new restaurant Table.  We are looking forward to seeing all of the new changes.

Here is the trailer that we created for Adam and Briana's wedding day movie, shot at The H (Ashman Court at the time).

Here is the Same Day Edit that we did for Chris and Erin at The H (Ashman Court at the time).  For more information on what a Same Day Edit is click here.

A Beautiful Weekend

What a beautiful weekend for a wedding!  We started the day the morning off at Rachel's parent's house to capture the girls getting ready for the big day....make-up....hair....  One unique twist was Rachel's photographer Ksenija was also her make-up artist.  What a great idea....who better to do your make-up than someone who knows lighting and who will be photographing the day.

Still 02

Then it was off to Matt's Parent's house where the guys always have a different way of getting ready for the day.  Game on!

Still 03

The ceremony was at the beautiful St. Ambrose Church in Grosse Pointe Park near Detroit....Beautiful!

Still 04

After the ceremony we headed down the road to St Claire Shores...which was a first for me....I had no idea how beautiful it was over there.  It was hard to get a bad shot.  We shot along side Ksenija and Danielle.  Not only is Ksenija a very talented photographer, but she has an amazing ability to have fun and keep the bride and groom at ease. Be sure to check out Ksenija's work on her website and on her blog. I am looking forward to her blog post on Rachel & Matt's wedding day.  Her blog is one to easily get addicted to....blog stalk at your own risk.

Still 01

Rachel & Matt's reception was at the Partridge Creek Country Club.  I loved the entry into their reception....tons of candles....beautiful.

Still 07

Well what better way to end a beautiful day than a beautiful evening.

Still 05

Rachel & Matt we had a lot of fun capturing your wedding day and look forward to being able to tell the story of your wedding day.  Stay tuned for more from this beautiful wedding.

Here's to Moms - Happy Mother's Day!

If you haven't seen this on You Tube.....where have you been. Okay maybe you spend a little less time on the internet than me.  This is the great summary of all the oh so familiar words we heard growing up and  may have even found yourself using today with your own kids.  One of Ethan's first videos was done to the William Tell Overture, it is very fitting to the pace and life of being a mother.

So here's to all the mothers out there who are over worked, underpaid, and under appreciated.  Mom thank you for giving me that entrepreneurial inspiration to go after my dream.  I still remember our long "business" phone call where I gave you my entire business plan over the phone and when I was all done hashing it all out, you said "go for it, I don't see why not", which meant a lot coming from a realist like yourself.  Now here we are 8 years later and have never looked back.  Thank you for your encouragement and instilling in me that indeed "we can do all things though Christ who strengthens us". (Philippians 4:13)

And of course how can I forget the mother of my children.....this is starting to sound like the Oscars.  Well honey thank you for being the best partner a man could ever ask for in this journey.  I don't know how you do it, running a home, a business, a family, and volunteering like you do.  Many people do a lot of things, but very few find the balance like you do.  Thank you for being my best friend and raising the best kids in the world.  I love you! -Aaron

pearls events :: blog spotlight interview

Pearls_events_blog
We came across Aletha's blog in our surf from blog to blog.  It is amazing the kind of information that is available on the internet.  Being in the wedding industry and shooting a lot of Grand Rapids weddings we were very excited to come across pearls events blog and website.  Aletha invests a lot of time and effort into covering all aspects of the wedding industry. Perusing through her blog I felt like I was looking at a bridal magazine except you can watch video on it too....sweet!  Many couples these days are part of myspace, facebook, and the online generation.  It is great to see a wedding coordinator who is in touch with where her clients are coming from and offering such a wealth of information.

We were honored when Aletha asked us to be interviewed for a spotlight post on her blog.  Check out this interview on her blog.  If you want help in planning your wedding day or if you want to be a guest at your own wedding, or if you just want some great ideas check out pearls events blog and website.

Become Legendary

Ok, I have to admit, I have been a Michael Jordan fan since way back in the day when it was uncool to like Michael Jordan or the Bulls.  When all the talk was about those Bad Boys, the Pistons.  I always wanted to dunk like him.  It always looked better in my head and was on an 8 ft rim :-)

Since we are inspired by the world around us, we will from time to time post an inspirational clip that grabbed our attention.  I love what is said by this commercial, it is easy to think that someone we look up to just got there or somehow it came easy.  There is no substitution for hard work.  For all those other MJ fans out there, enjoy this walk down memory lane.

Mothers of Preschoolers - Making a Difference

If you have young kids, you may have heard of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers).  MOPS is a international organization where local moms get together to learn how to be the best moms they can be.  They develop relationships and find support during the Preschool years.

Renee' is on the steering team as Creative Coordinator and has heart for seeing women build strong relationships that encourage them in their roles as mothers.  Renee' also maintains their local MOPS blog to keep the mothers informed as well as encouraged.

Renee' and their group wanted to create this 1 minute video to tell the many stories of the women in their group and how they can make a difference.

71 degrees in Michigan!

After a winter like we have had, warm weather gets us pretty excited, and then we hit the park.  I think just about everybody had the same idea, it is amazing how packed a little neighborhood park can get.  Lindsey enjoyed the swings once again....and as always, the higher the better.

Summer is almost here!
